  1. 24 Jul 2026Briefnewly addedPresident Mohammed Shahabuddin, in office since April 2023, resigned on health grounds in a letter to the Speaker of the Jatiyo Sangsad, starting constitutional succession. The Ganga Waters Treaty of 1996, a thirty year agreement on sharing at Farakka, falls due for renewal in December 2026.
