A Uniform Civil Code is one law of marriage, divorce, succession and adoption for all citizens in place of personal laws; Article 44 asks the State to secure it, as a non justiciable Directive Principle.

1 Jun 2026Briefnewly addedMadhya Pradesh invited public suggestions on a Uniform Civil Code through a portal, while a committee headed by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prasad Desai toured the State. Uttarakhand (2024) and Gujarat (March 2026) have implemented a Uniform Civil Code, and Assam passed a Bill on 27 May 2026.
