Green Energy Corridor

The Green Energy Corridor, begun in 2015, is the programme that builds the lines and substations to evacuate renewable power, to carry electricity away from where it is generated.
- Transmission is congested, so power from renewable rich States cannot reach the buyers who want it.
- It runs in intra State and inter State phases with central support.
- Right of way disputes, forest clearances and, in the bustard's range, restrictions on overhead lines have delayed the earlier phases.
What changed
30 Sep 2026
- The Cabinet approved Phase III, to strengthen transmission inside States for up to 135 GW of renewable power by 2032 to 33, with 50 GWh of battery storage.
- Hybrid renewable energy project
- A plant that generates from more than one renewable source, usually solar and wind, on one site and through one grid connection.
- Curtailment
- Deliberately cutting a plant's output below what it could generate, because the grid cannot carry or absorb the electricity.
- Inverter based resource
- A generator such as solar or wind that reaches the grid through power electronics, and so gives none of the rotating inertia that coal and hydro turbines do.
- Power purchase agreement
- A long term contract under which a buyer, usually a distribution company, agrees to take a project's electricity at an agreed price.
- Power exchange
- A platform for generators, distribution companies, traders and large consumers to buy and sell electricity.
- Market coupling
- Discovering one electricity price across exchanges through a centralised mechanism.
- Reconductoring
- Replacing old conductors that sag under heat with high temperature, low sag conductors, to carry more power on the same towers and rights of way.

A data centre is counted in megawatts of IT load, because uninterrupted power is what it must be given and constant cooling is what that power becomes.
