A framework of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) under which a bank customer who loses a small sum to electronic banking fraud is compensated.
What changed
25 Jun 2026Briefnewly addedUnder the RBI's amended Responsible Business Conduct directions for commercial banks, from 1 January 2027 a victim with a loss of up to ₹50,000 gets 85% of the net loss or ₹25,000, whichever is less, once in a lifetime. The cost is shared by the RBI, the customer's bank and the beneficiary bank. The fraud must be reported within five days on the 1930 helpline, the cybercrime portal or to the bank.
