Satellite and emerging communications

Satellite internet and emerging ways to communicate: satellite constellations and how their service is licensed and given spectrum, communication between vehicles, short range wireless, photonics and optical links. It serves GS3 answers on communications technology.

Photonics: The science and technology of generating, guiding and detecting light particles, photons, much as electronics handles electrons.

C-V2X: Cellular vehicle-to-everything, a radio technology built on mobile network standards that links vehicles, roads and pedestrians.

Semicon 2.0: The second phase of India's Semicon India Programme, ₹1,27,500 crore of support for chip design, fabs, packaging and research.

Low Earth orbit: The band of orbits roughly 160 to 2,000 km above the Earth, where most satellites and the crewed space stations fly.

satellite earth station gateway: A ground facility that links a satellite constellation to terrestrial telecom networks; Indian rules require these to stand on Indian soil.

GMPCS licence: The Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) licence, which the Department of Telecommunications grants to sell satellite based voice and data services in India.

data localisation: A requirement that data generated in India be stored on servers located within India.
