25 Aug 2026Briefnewly addedOn 25 August 2026 the United States threatened penalties on countries doing business with Iran, but did not impose them yet. The United States waiver that let India wind down its operations at Chabahar lapsed on 26 April 2026, and India made no allocation for the port in the 2026-27 Budget after paying out its funding commitment. The Ministry of External Affairs has said only that the matter is under discussion with Iran, the United States and other stakeholders.
